The caller claimed to be from System Mechanic and needed to gain access to my computer to clean out some error messages they had received from my computer. I told them I do not give access to my computer to anyone, and they immediately ended the call. Do not give them access to your computer.

Fake Microsoft techs trying to fool you with fake assistance and then offering to sell you software that is free elsewhere and then sell you support memberships for hundreds of dollars. FTC has already made these criminals issue refunds and then they continue to rip people off anyway.

The caller was foreign and claimed to be from system Mechanic. He said that he needed to inform me that some hackers were trying to get my IP address, and he was going to show me how to remove the viruses that were being put into my computer to gain access to it. He also said that these hackers were going to send out messages from my computer and I was going to be held accountable for what ever they were going to do. He kept asking what would be a good time to call me and set it up. I return called his phone number and it is not set up to receive calls.

Yup, this number called saying they were from System Mechanics and claiming they've been monitoring my computer for error messages and that it would corrupt my computer if I did NOT let him clean out my computer. He (someone from India) only gave me my email addy. I told him I needed to leave to end the call. I called System Mechanics myself to see if this is legitimate. DON'T LET THEM TAKE ACCESS TO YOUR PC!!!!! FAKE

I have also received calls from this number, claiming to be from system mechanic/Iolo. I told the man ( who clearly had an Indian accent) that I don't give access to my computer to anyone, unless I initiate the call, and I'd call System mechanic myself, and find out if I have an issue. Also told him that I did not believe that Iolo monitors my computer, and that I did not believe him. He promptly hung up. I am sure this is a scam.
