October 27, 2014, 1:22 pm just got a call, someone names Chris with an East Indian accent and boiler room sounds in the background. He asked me if I was so and so and of course I agreed. He said he was calling from ADT and offering me a free security system, I said great, give me a local number I can call you back and I'll give it some thought. I asked, you are local aren't you? He stammered, and I said then I'm sorry there is no way I can do any business with you, don't ever call me again. I don't know what he said in response because I went click and put him on call block. Had a very obvious Indian accent and was using a white man's name. Sounded silly. I did my homework and I think the point of these scam calls is to trick you into thinking you got a favor and then try to sell you a fake tech support membership once they build trust. December 17, 2014, 10:19 am I've had a bunch of these calls, the last one was at 2:46 am last night. No one there when I picked up. Last week I had 2 calls from this number one at 10:55 pm, and one at 2 am. Nobody there on the 10:55 call, but the 2 am one was one calling like the callers above said about wanting to check my computer that they were from Microsoft. Scares the hell out of me getting a call at 2 or 3 in the morning, I always think something has happened to one of my friends or family. They probably just change their company name to keep the scam running. They try to sell you free software and 9 year tech support memberships after tricking you that something is wrong with your computer. March 20, 2015, 7:15 pm Had a phone call from this number today. John Allen (with a distinct Punjabi accent) told me he was calling from the Public Safety branch of the Candian Federal gov't. Told me my computer had been hacked and there were 13 computers linked to my up address. When I doubted his sincerity, he told me he would cut off my internet in 2 hours. I hung up... April 8, 2015, 1:30 pm Had a call this morning from someone claiming to be from VISA and stating an unauthorized E- bay purchase. They will ask for your personal info as well as the card number and the 3 digit number on the back as well. This is a scam! If you call the number you cannot connect to it. April 13, 2015, 11:00 am Had a call this morning from someone claiming to be from VISA and stating an unauthorized purchase of $150. VISA and MASTER CARD as he said and he (India accent) realized that during the conversation he had said VISA but later mentionned the MASTERCARD told him which one he said VISA/MASTERCARD and he hang up. April 22, 2015, 4:23 pm I had a girl come to my door signing up National Post readers for 20 dollar trial subscriptions. She said she needed 5 more to be eligible for a scholarship. She was really pleasant and looked between 18 and 19 years old. About a week later I received a call from 905 267 0364 but it was hard to hear them through a rumbling in the back ground like a loud AC unit. They said they'd call back on another line. Asked for $2650 to pay fine and get me some time to fix issues. Did not let me disconnect phone. Even sent me a cab to go to ATM. Make you believe they are helping you. They are not hackers. They want to you believe they provided a free service in fixing your computer so you will buy extended years long tech support contracts for hundreds of dollars. Also they want to sell you software which is actually available online for free thinking you are too naive to know the difference. July 7, 2015, 3:44 am I got a caller who said they they were from Microsoft and wanted to fix my computer which had been hacked with a virus. They said the virus was infecting the network and other users and they need to come in to fix this. Apparently, this is a giant misleading sales scam for tech support memberships. November 6, 2015, 11:31 am Just got a call from a very rude India sounding man who claimed to be calling about my Windows 10 having sent an error message about some of my Window applications having stopped. He wanted to view my computer remotely. When challenged, a supervisor can on the line and said I did not understand the way computers worked.
